DISTRIBUTOR OF THE MONTH DENMARK

ENGHOLM A/S was founded way back in 1841 and is today among Denmark's seven oldest companies.

The history:

Johan Peder Engholm was an enterprising businessman.
Born in 1797 in Copenhagen as the son of a merchant, - so the commercial talent probably awoke early along with the urge to work.

As early as 1828, he was in Greenland as an assistant and later a merchant in various settlements - including a longer stay in Pedershaab (today Paamiut).

He ends his stay in Greenland as a colony manager in the settlement of Holsteinsborg (today Sisimiut), where he really got a feel for and responsibility with supply lines and the procurement of goods from outside to then get them distributed to settlements and issues along the west Greenland coast.

In 1840, he sees a business in supplying Denmark's many shipyards, boat builders and shipping companies with various accessories from ropes to metal goods.

His abilities as a foresight businessman are put to the test this year, when he succeeds in negotiating for part of the English corvette Rockwood, which was sunk in Holsteinborg's harbour.

He is interested in the bottom and thus a lot of copper, which he gets one of the merchant ships to take to Copenhagen.

He sells the materials and with this as starting capital, he establishes himself on 22 March 1841 as a "ship inventory dealer" in Strandgade in Christianshavn.

The business grew and moved to a new address in Strandgade. In 1875, the son Carl Martin Lintzmeyer Engholm takes over the business and runs it until 1920, when the Møller family enters the company.

From Strandgade, the trip goes to Nyhavn 25 with better storage conditions and its own unloading quay. In 1963, the Møller brothers then take over the business.

From 1980, brothers Frits and Henrik Schledermann ran the company until 2001 from Dortheavej 41, Copenhagen NV, after which Mogens Jensen became the new owner and day-to-day manager.

In 2003, Engholm A/S moved its address again. This time to our current residence in Allerød.

On 1 October 2014, two of the company's employees, Søren Olofsen and Tim Refsgaard, take over Engholm A/S.

Today, Engholm's core areas are:

Boat builders, shipyards, The Danish Navy, marine retail stores. Furthermore, we have sales to industrial companies, where the sales include lifting equipment and wirerope as well as chains in various designs.

Denmark is known for having water around us, but west-facing coasts are limited with boats. Last count is that there are approx. 45,000 sails and motorboats in Denmark. In addition, there are dinghies, canoes and other water sports activities

Dulon/Deckmate's products came to Engholm in April (this year) and we expect increasing sales over the next few years. Top products are Dulon 1 & 2, but as sales increase and our customers are informed about Deckmate's great product range, there is also a large potential.
